Institute for Green Development (I4GD) was among the local NGOs that participated in the 3rd International Conference on National Urban Policies (NUPs). The conference was held at UN-Habitat headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya on 28th-31st Oct, 2019. The theme of the conference was “Foster Innovations for Sustainable and Climate-resilient Cities.”

The conference tackled a lot of areas relating to innovations and urban policies at the national level. For instance, the conference entailed a detailed discussion on how innovative partnerships can be harnessed and fostered for the implementation of equitable NUPs. Governments need to be innovative if the NUPs are to be successful. The innovation should be thematic and integrate all the issues that affect urban areas including solid waste management, urban mobility, and housing. Inclusivity is important in developing a sustainable NUP.
I4GD’s project dubbed “Ukulima Mtaani” Project is one of the projects that seek to enhance sustainable cities and communities. Currently, the project is at Kayole estate in Nairobi. Please follow up on the Facebook Page of the project for additional information.
